Service Description
LegalMate provides AI-powered legal research assistance for New Zealand law. This service does not constitute legal advice.
Data Storage & Sovereignty
Your account data, uploaded documents and question history are stored on servers located in New Zealand. We do not store your documents in AI training data, and we do not use your documents or questions to train AI models.
AI Processing & Cross-Border Transfer
To generate answers and analyse documents, LegalMate sends the text of your questions and uploaded documents to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) whose processing occurs outside New Zealand (in the United States). This is a cross-border disclosure of information for the purposes of Information Privacy Principle 12 of the Privacy Act 2020. The content is processed to produce your result and is not used to train the provider's models. By using LegalMate you consent to this cross-border processing. If you do not consent, please do not upload documents or submit questions containing personal or confidential information.
Privacy Act 2020
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information LegalMate holds about you (Information Privacy Principles 6 and 7). You can view and delete your uploaded documents and question history from within the application.
User Responsibilities
Users must provide accurate information and use the service in compliance with applicable laws.
Limitation of Liability
LegalMate is not liable for any decisions made based on AI-generated legal research. Professional legal advice is recommended for important matters.
